Curt is a pleasure to work with. He addressed the concerns I pointed out specific to possible early evidence of Termite tube presence. He treated it. We set up a plan for ongoing monitoring with specific timeliness.

I was very impressed with the technician that came to the house ( John) to install the bait stations around the house. He was very informative as well as knowledgeable about the termites and what he was doing. His communication skills were excellent too and he was very easy to talk to. It's only been a week since he came out so it's too early to discuss results, but I do look forward to John coming out for the follow-up. Thank you again John! 👌

Debug Pest Control offers comprehensive termite protection designed to safeguard your home at every stage. Our service begins with thorough termite inspections, where trained technicians identify active infestations, damage, and risk factors. For ongoing protection, we install advanced liquid barriers that create a protective zone around your property, preventing termites from entering and causing structural damage.

We also utilize Sentricon bait stations, an eco-friendly solution that targets termite colonies at the source. These discreet stations are strategically placed around your home to eliminate entire colonies while minimizing impact on your environment.

For homeowners, buyers, and sellers, we provide detailed WDI/WDO reports for real estate transactions. These reports meet industry standards and offer clear documentation of any termite activity or damage, helping ensure smooth property transfers.

In addition, Debug Pest Control offers pre-construction termite treatments, protecting new builds before termites become a problem. By treating the soil and foundation early, we help prevent infestations before they start.

Termite Control Services in Cohasset, MA

Living in Cohasset means you get the best of the South Shore. You’re close to the harbor, a short walk from Cohasset Common, and surrounded by classic New England homes that have stood for a century or more. That charm comes with a catch. Older wood, damp basements, and shaded yards make great habitats for subterranean termites. If you own a home here, termite control should be on your radar.

At Debug Pest Control, we help homeowners across Cohasset protect their biggest investment from the quiet damage termites can cause. Whether you’re near Sandy Beach, the Lightkeepers’ Residence, or off Jerusalem Road, our team knows what to look for and how to handle it.

Why Cohasset Homes Attract Termites

Subterranean termites are the most common type in Massachusetts. They live in the soil and build mud tubes to reach wood above ground. Cohasset’s mix of coastal humidity, mature trees, and historic construction gives them plenty of reasons to settle in. Properties near wooded lots by Wheelwright Park or Whitney and Thayer Woods often see more activity because of the moisture and decaying wood nearby.

The local economy here leans on tourism, small businesses around the village, and a strong real estate market. A termite problem can stall a home sale fast, and repair costs eat into the value of properties that owners have worked hard to maintain. That’s why early detection matters so much in this area.

Where Subterranean Termites Hide on Your Property

Termites don’t announce themselves. They work behind walls and under floors, often for years before you notice. Here are the spots worth checking around your Cohasset home.

  • Soil along the foundation, where mud tubes can form
  • Crawl spaces and basements with damp wood or cardboard
  • Mulch beds pressed against siding
  • Firewood stacked near the house
  • Tree stumps and old roots in the yard
  • Deck posts and fence bases that touch the ground
  • Wooden steps, porch supports, and sill plates
  • Behind bathroom and kitchen walls where plumbing leaks

If you spot pencil-thin mud tubes climbing your foundation or hear a hollow sound when you tap a wood beam, that’s a sign worth taking seriously. You can read more about the signs of termites in your house to know what else to watch for.

Signs of Termite Damage to Watch For

Termite damage often looks subtle at first. By the time it’s obvious, the colony has been at work for a while. Keep an eye out for these clues.

  • Wood that sounds hollow when tapped
  • Paint that bubbles or peels for no clear reason
  • Tiny pinholes in drywall or trim
  • Sagging floors or warped door frames
  • Discarded wings near windowsills
  • Frass, which looks like fine sawdust or pellets
  • Mud tubes on basement walls or the foundation

Swarmers can also tip you off. These are winged termites that leave the colony to start new ones. Spotting them inside your home in spring is a red flag. Here’s a helpful read on what flying termites are and why they matter.

Our Termite Treatments

Every home is different. A waterfront property off Atlantic Avenue has different needs than a colonial near the village center. We start with a full inspection, then build a plan around what we find. Our termite treatments include liquid soil treatments that create a protective zone around your foundation, bait stations that intercept termites before they reach the house, and targeted spot treatments for active infestations.

A skilled termite exterminator from our team will walk you through each option, explain what to expect, and answer questions about safety, timing, and follow-up visits. You can learn more about our full termite control services and what’s included in each plan.

A Short Article on Termites and Why They Matter

Termites have been around for more than 200 million years. In nature, they play a useful role by breaking down dead trees and returning nutrients to the soil. The trouble starts when they can’t tell the difference between a fallen log and the framing of your house.

A single subterranean colony can hold hundreds of thousands of workers. Those workers eat cellulose around the clock, and cellulose is the main ingredient in wood, paper, and many building materials. They don’t sleep. They don’t take breaks. They just chew.

What makes them so tough to spot is their preference for darkness and moisture. They build tunnels through soil and mud tubes along surfaces to avoid open air. By the time a homeowner sees damage, the colony has often been feeding for three to eight years. That’s why annual inspections are such a smart move, especially in older neighborhoods where termites have had decades to settle in.

The good news is that modern treatments are far more effective than what was available even twenty years ago. Bait systems and non-repellent liquid products can wipe out entire colonies, not just the termites you see. A trained technician can set up a defense that lasts for years with minimal disruption to your daily life.

Interesting Facts About Subterranean Termites

  • A mature colony can contain over a million termites
  • Queens can live for 25 years or more and lay thousands of eggs each day
  • Termites communicate through chemical signals called pheromones
  • They can’t digest wood on their own and rely on microbes in their gut to break down cellulose
  • Worker termites are blind and navigate by touch and smell
  • Soldier termites have oversized jaws used to defend against ants, their main predator
  • A colony can consume about a pound of wood per week, which adds up over years
  • Termites are more closely related to cockroaches than to ants
  • Subterranean termites need contact with soil or another moisture source to survive
  • They build elaborate tunnel networks that can stretch hundreds of feet from the colony

Common Concerns From Cohasset Homeowners

When folks call us about termites, we hear the same worries again and again. Here are a few that come up often, along with honest answers.

Will the treatment harm my family or pets? Modern termite products are applied with care and used at low concentrations. Once the application dries or the bait stations are sealed, there’s no risk to your household. We’ll explain exactly what we’re using and where.

How long does treatment take? Most liquid treatments can be completed in a single visit, usually a few hours depending on the size of your home. Bait systems are installed in one visit and then monitored over time.

Do I need to leave the house? In most cases, no. You can go about your day while we work outside around the foundation.

How much damage have they already done? That depends on how long they’ve been there. Our inspection will give you a clear picture of any active damage and where the activity is concentrated.

Will they come back? With proper treatment and annual monitoring, the odds of a new infestation drop to almost nothing. We offer ongoing protection plans to keep your home covered year after year.

Bait Versus Liquid Treatments

One question we get a lot is whether bait stations or liquid treatments work better. The truth is that both have a role, and the right choice depends on your property. Liquid treatments create a barrier in the soil that termites can’t cross without picking up the active ingredient. Bait systems use stations placed around the yard that workers carry back to the colony, wiping it out from within. Some homes benefit from a combination of both. If you want a deeper dive, check out our breakdown of termite bait versus liquid treatment.

Termite Prevention Tips

Prevention is the most prudent approach to termite control. A few small habits can make your home much less inviting.

  • Keep mulch at least six inches away from your foundation
  • Store firewood off the ground and away from the house
  • Fix leaky faucets, gutters, and downspouts
  • Make sure crawl spaces have proper ventilation
  • Trim shrubs and trees so they don’t touch your siding
  • Remove old stumps and buried wood from your yard
  • Seal cracks in your foundation and around utility lines
  • Schedule an annual termite inspection

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I have termites or carpenter ants? Both can damage wood, but they leave different signs. Carpenter ants push out coarse sawdust, while termites leave behind pellet-like frass and mud tubes. A technician can tell the two apart quickly.

How often should I get a termite inspection? Once a year is the standard recommendation for homes in Massachusetts. If your home has had termites before or sits near woods or water, more frequent checks may be wise.

Are termites active year round in Cohasset? Subterranean termites slow down in winter but don’t stop. They move deeper into the soil where it’s warmer. Activity picks up again in spring, which is also swarming season.

Can I treat termites myself? Store-bought sprays and traps rarely reach the colony. You might kill a few workers, but the queen keeps producing more. Professional treatment is the only reliable way to handle an active infestation.

Does homeowners insurance cover termite damage? In most cases, no. Insurance treats termite damage as preventable, which is another reason regular inspections matter.

How long does a termite treatment last? Liquid treatments can protect a home for five to ten years depending on the product and soil conditions. Bait systems work as long as they’re monitored and maintained.

What should I do if I see swarmers inside my house? Collect a few in a sealed bag or jar and call a professional. Swarmers inside usually mean an active colony is nearby. You can also learn more about termites and their behavior on our pest information page.

Will treatment disrupt my landscaping? We work carefully around plants and lawns. Liquid applications go into the soil along the foundation, and bait stations are small and discreet.
