Cockroaches (American)

What are American cockroaches?

American cockroaches are a large type of cockroach. They’re usually found outdoors in warm moist areas like under mulch, woodpiles,  and under garden beds. They usually only venture indoors in search of food or water.

What do American cockroaches look like?

American cockroaches are a dark reddish-brown color. Their body can reach 2” in length. They have a yellow band around their head that makes them easy to differentiate from other types of cockroaches. They have wings and can fly.

What do American cockroach eggs look like?

American roach egg sacks are reddish or chocolate brown in color and have a smooth, shiny appearance. They look like dry kidney beans.

Are American cockroaches dangerous?

American cockroaches do not bite or sting. Their real danger lies in their ability to expose you to dangerous bacteria and disease. American cockroaches are not poisonous, but they are drawn to drains, bathrooms, and dumpsters, and as a result can carry the bacteria from these places into your home or business. They can contaminate food and cause serious illnesses like Salmonella poisoning. Their excrement is also a serious allergen for many people.

Where are the American cockroaches coming from?

American cockroaches make their way inside through cracks in your foundation, under doors and through spaces around your windows.

How do I know if I have an American cockroach infestation?

American cockroaches are more active at night. During the day they will hide in cracks and crevices in walls. You may see them walking  or flying around during the day. You may also see their feces inside kitchen drawers and cabinets, behind food appliances. Their feces look like coffee grounds. You might also be able to smell them, as they secrete a musty smelling odor.

How do I get rid of American cockroaches?

Getting rid of American cockroaches can be tough; this is not a task for DIY big box store remedies. Cockroaches are dangerous to your health and reproduce quickly.
